Boston’s Jewish population is estimated at 85,000.

It is reputed to be the largest Jewish community in the Northeast outside of New York City. At about this time, Boston’s Jewish population begins moving out of the South End, West End, and East Boston and to Dorchester, Mattapan and Roxbury. An estimated 76,500 Jewish residents live in those three neighborhoods by 1940.
